To DoseDoctor Users:
Due to continued pressure from the FDA and American Academy of Pediatrics, drug manufacturers of over-the-counter cough and cold medications have voluntarily made label changes recommending that these medications not be given to children under 4 years of age. This change was not ordered by the FDA but was done voluntarily given continued concerns over the safety of these products when used in young children.
While the vast majority of problems occurring with these medications are the direct result of dosing errors, and accidental ingestions, continued pressure has given drug manufacturers no choice but to make these changes. In fact, our desire to help prevent these problems with medication dosing errors was the driving force behind creating DoseDoctor. Furthermore, we at DoseDoctor believe our product that provides correct dosing information is perfectly situated to allow continued safe use of these medications.
Unfortunately, given the above actions, we at DoseDoctor will no longer be able to provide parents with dosing information for use of these medications in children under 4 years of age. Furthermore, while accurate dosing of medications based on weight is important for children of all ages, it is most important in younger children. And, with the loss of ability to provide this service for the most important age group of children, we at DoseDoctor have had to make the difficult decision to suspend this service.
For those of you that have enjoyed our service for the past 2 years, DoseDoctor thanks you for your patronage and we hope you found our service helpful. And, hopefully, we can resume our service once more when, and if, these restrictive recommendations are lifted.
Sincerely,
The DoseDoctor Family
